the ferry from Spain to Marocco

Traveling by ferry is a convenient way to see many places without the expense and hassle of an airline ticket or the discomfort and length of travelling time involved with driving. If you’re trying to get from Tarifa, Spain to Tangier, Morocco, taking the ferry just makes sense. It’s fast and easy and takes a lot of the stress out of arranging travel between the two places.

Information about the ferry

The ferry you take will be operated by one of two ferry companies: FRS or Intershipping, both of which are a car or foot passenger style of ferry. The duration of the trip is about 45 minutes so it’s a fairly short and easy trip to make.

Foot passengers

If you’re planning to arrive by car, then travel by foot onto the ferry, you can leave your vehicle in a small car park at the port for about 18 euros per day. If you’re being dropped off, there is a 15 minute free grace period in the car park for you to unload your luggage. If you have already purchased tickets, arrive at the ferry terminal about 30 minutes before departure. If you need to buy tickets, arrive a bit sooner and see a ticket agent in the terminal. There is a cafe that serves food and drinks while you wait to board the ferry, which is done via a vehicle ramp.

Car passengers

If you’re driving your car onto the ferry, be sure it is insured outside of Europe and have your green card handy. If you already have your tickets, proceed to the car line marked with the ferry company you’re using. If you need to buy tickets, park your car and go inside the terminal to purchase them. Then drive to the dock and join the queue for getting on the ferry.

On the ferry

If you’re a foot passenger, you can stow your luggage in the designated area and choose a seat for the trip. You’ll need to have your documents and arrival card ready to show the immigration officials. Upon arrival, you’ll leave the ferry before the car passengers. If you’re a car passenger, you’ll park your car as directed and then move up to the passenger deck during the trip. Have your documents and green card ready. Upon arrival, you’ll need to see the officials for registering your foreign license plates.
