Qatar Airways vs KLM

Two of the most popular carriers are KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Qatar Airways. For over a century, KLM has been providing passengers with reliable air travel. It has steadily built up a network of approximately 140 destinations. These are served by a fleet of around 110 aircraft. Qatar is a much newer airline, having been founded in 1993. Its fleet consists of approximately 250 aircraft travelling to 150 global destinations. The main difference between the two airlines is First Class. KLM doesn’t currently provide these seats. Qatar flights usually include a cabin where eight passengers enjoy the finest luxury travel.

KLM Business Seats

Passengers flying in any busines seats expect a superior level of comfort. KLM has around eighteen highly comfortable Business seats on each flight. Depending on the aircraft, they usually have a 2-2-2 arrangement with front-facing or staggered, herringbone seats. They are particularly wide at 25.5″ (65 cm). There’s also a pitch of 60″ (152 cm) that ensures plenty of space. But most importantly, the seat converts to a completely flat bed. It has a length of 6’9″ (206 cm) providing the tallest passengers with the chance of a good night’s sleep. The privacy screens are relatively low and adjoining seats share a console.

Qatar Business Seats

Travelling Business Class with Qatar Airways has hints of first class luxury. Passengers usually receive slippers and pyjamas. There’s also access to a bar where you can admire vases of flowers while enjoying a variety of beverages. However, alcohol is unavailable during Ramadan which occurs in April. The Business cabin is particularly spacious with seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. Each one has direct access to the aisle. Converted flat bed seats are slightly narrower with a width of 22.2″ (56.4 cm) and the length is just 1″ (2,5 cm) less. Fixed screens create a private cubicle with shelving and an extra large entertainment monitor.

How does Economy Class compare between KLM and Qatar Airways?

KLM offers two levels of service with Economy and Economy Comfort. The difference between them is Economy Comfort has 4″ (10 cm) additional legroom through a pitch of 35″ (90 cm). The seats also recline twice as deeply. Qatar Airways prefers to offer just one level for economy flights. The seats have a 3-4-3 formation. At 18.5″ ( 46.9 cm) the seats are 1″ (2.5 cm) wider than KLM’s and they also include a generous space between them. The pitch is 32″ (81.3 cm) which is nearer to KLM’s Economy Class measurements.

KLM and Qatar Airways conclusion

Both airlines offer comfortable flights. The seats in Qatar’s Economy Class offer slightly more space and comfort unless you choose the superior sizing of KLM’s Economy Comfort. In Business Class, the seats are both comfortable although KLM’s are much wider. However, you’ll gain more privacy with Qatar Airways. Whichever class or airline you choose, there’ll be a wide selection of nutritious hot and cold meals.
