Where is Awakenings Amsterdam?

The main Awakenings festival is a Techno-music live performance that has been taking place each year for over two decades to highlight the Dutch techno scene. However, it covers artists from out of the Netherlands. It takes place each end of June at Recreatiegebied Spaarnwoude, Netherlands. This is a traditional field for the festival.

Spaarnwoude is an expansive recreation area west of Amsterdam that covers about 3,000 hectares. The area has several recreational facilities that include a swimming pool, climbing wall and skiing slope. Awakenings happens on Velsen Valley, Houtrak, the north-western part of the recreational field that is under the control of the Municipality of Velsen. This location is between Haarlem and Amsterdam and takes about 25 minutes drive from Amsterdam city centre.

The massive concert attracts over thousands of techno fans from around the world. It lasts for two days on the weekend and features more than 100 DJs playing the best of the techno music collections from the Netherlands and around the world. There are over five stages where the massive crowds enjoy quality music under cover of the disco lights and large screens. Overall, fans enjoy over 90 acts over the two days they are at the event.

Awakenings franchise hosts several other events across the Netherlands for the techno fans. Although not as big as the annual event at Houtrak, each of these events attracts tens of thousands of fans. The location for the event is generally secure as fans have not experienced any major security problems in the past.
