The 1000-hectare Amsterdamse Bos (or Forest) is the largest park in the city and offers a variety of sports and leisure activities. Designed as an English-style landscaped garden, it also contains other amenities such as lakes, pools, a petting zoo and a wild area (or Schinkelbos).
Although it belongs to the city of Amsterdam, most of the park is situated in the municipality of Amstelveen. It is located south of the city just outside the A10 ring road on Bosbaanweg 5. There is a regular bus service to the Bos from Amsterdam Central Station. The bus conveniently stops at the park’s main entrance at the crossing of Van Nijenrodeweg and Amstelveenseweg where you will also find De Boswinkel (a combined information centre/gift shop). Alternatively, it is a 20-minute bike ride from the centre of Amsterdam. If you visit Amsterdam Bos by car, you should take the A10 via Bosbaanweg. There are a number of car parks located close to the Bos, most of which are free.
