General details on visiting the Rijksmuseum

  • Opening hours for this visual feast are every day of the year from 9:00 to 17:00, and this includes Christmas day and New Year’s day. The Rijksmuseum Gardens, Rijks Shop and Café are also open to visitors from 9:00 to 18:00.
  • If you want to plan your trip to the Netherlands in a quieter tourism time, this museum’s busiest months are April, May and August, The ticket office will see you waiting for up to half an hour, so it is always advised to buy your ticket online to avoid the busy ticket office. The ticket is valid for up to 12 months after purchase.
  • Those with disabilities and in wheelchairs will be pleased to note that the Rijksmuseum is accessible for them. All galleries and lifts are wheelchair accessible. It is useful to know that the museum even has some wheelchairs available for use. Non-pointy walking sticks, crutches and walking frames, as well as guide dogs, are also permitted but mobility scooters are not. To ensure everyone feels welcome, the museum also permits free entry to the person assisting those who can’t move around independently through the museum.
  • All those odds and ends that people carry with them such as umbrellas and backpacks can be left in the supervised cloakroom with free lockers.
  • You can take photos and videos in the museum without a flash and tripods. There is free wifi within the museum.
