Which airport is closest to Milan city centre?

Milan, fondly referred to as Milano by the local is a small but cosy town full of memorable sights. The city centre sits inside an inner ring that moulds onto the outer protective wall that kept out raiders in the Middle Ages.

Even though those walls are no longer there, their impact still shape the picturesque city giving it an irresistible aura to the refined tourist. This couples up with Piazza Duomo (the Cathedral Square) and remaining parts of the Spanish walls that date back to the 16th century.

Airports near Milan city centre

The city is serviced by two main airports. The closest is the Linate Airport just outside the city. It will take you around 20 minutes to get into the city centre from Linate Airport. It mostly handles domestic flights and is a favourite with budget airlines into the region.

If you are on a international flight, you will land at the Milan-Malpensa international airport. This is roughly 50 kilometres from Milano and could take you up to 50 minutes to get to the city. It is best used if you are on an international flight or couldn’t get a ticket on the domestic flights or planes that go straight to the more favourable Linate Airport

Outside Milan

Bergamo international airport located 45km outside Milan, in the suburb of Orio al Serio is considered to be Milan’s third airport. Low-cost airlines and cargo airlines such as DHL Aviation use this airport in particular. In 2015, BGY handled 10,404,625 passengers, making it Italy’s third airport. The bus will take you for prices starting at 6 Euro to Milan city centre in about 45 minutes.
