How to get to Como: the nearest airports

Lago di Como or Lario, better known in the Netherlands as Lake Como, is a dream destination for many. Surrounded by picturesque villages and impressive peaks, this idyllic mountain lake in the Italian Alps attracts thousands of visitors from all over Europe every year. Travelers with every budget imaginable, from camping hikers to international celebrities with millions on the bank, can’t resist the tranquil temptation of Italy’s deepest lake.

If you are going to visit the Como Lake, do not miss out on these great things to do.

For a long time, the lake could only be reached by land, for which high mountain passes had to be braved, but today we can happily just fly. The nearest airports are discussed here!

Lugano, Switzerland (LUG)

Lake Como is entirely located in Italy, but in some parts it is only about four kilometers from the Swiss border. Not surprisingly, the closest airport to the lake is in Switzerland. Lugano Airport (LUG) is only 33 kilometers from the lake’s borders. With public transport or a shuttle service you can easily cross the border to Italy from Lugano. It will take about an hour to reach the city of Como on the lake of the same name.

Alternative airports close the Como Lake

Would you rather fly to Italy? Then the two airports of Milan offer a solution. Milano Malpensa (MXP) is located on the northeast side of the city and is only 47 kilometers away from Como. This distance can be bridged by car in 45 minutes, but takes at least an hour and a half by public transport.

Despite its distance from 66 kilometers, Linate Airport (LIN) offers faster transport options due to its central location in the city. You can reach your destination in an hour and 15 minutes with both a shuttle and public transport. Are you traveling to Lecco, or another place on the east side of the lake?

Then Il Caravaggio (BGY) is also worth considering. This airport is located in the nearby town of Bergamo, about 40 kilometers from Lake Como. From Bergamo, a train takes you to the lake in an hour and twenty minutes. This will take about 50 minutes by car.
