Where KLM is located: Amsterdam as the hub of the aviation world

As an airline with a good reputation worldwide and a global network of flights and connections, KLM plays an important role in the international business world and transport sector. The company attracts a great deal of economic activity from all over the world through the transport of passengers and cargo and the operation and maintenance of airports and aircraft. KLM’s headquarters are of course well connected with the rest of the world, but they also bring many jobs and other economic incentives to the place where they are located.

Where is KLM located?

KLM is a Dutch aviation group that was founded in 1919. It is therefore the oldest airline that still operates under its original name and has since become one of the ten largest employers in the Netherlands. From the first KLM flight from London to Amsterdam, Schiphol was used as a base. Even though the first office was built in The Hague and KLM’s headquarters have been located in different locations over the years, Schiphol Airport, and with it Amsterdam, has always been its true home. The current head office is in Amstelveen and the airport is technically located in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, but is considered the airport of the capital Amsterdam.

KLM’s activities and the competitive industry that has arisen around it bring an unparalleled economic boost to Amsterdam and the surrounding area and the Randstad as a whole. With over 70 million passengers a year, Schiphol has a permanent place in the top 15 busiest airports in the world and even occupies a worldwide number 5 position in terms of international flights. The more than 300 direct destinations on every inhabited continent that can be flown from Amsterdam’s airport make Schiphol Airport a true transport hub in the global aviation network.
