Formally known as Schiphol Airport it is located 7 kilometres southwest of Amsterdam. It is the municipality of Haarlemmermeer which is in North Holland. The airport is ranked among the busiest in Europe coming in at number 3. The concept used to build the airport is a single terminal.

The airport was built in the year 1916 and was first used as a military base. The airport location had only a few barracks and a field that served a military purpose.

Nowadays the airport design is built as one building that houses all services under one roof. The facility has three large departure halls that serve for departures. There plans underway to expand the facility and build two other terminals. The airport records high numbers of customers reaching 80 million clients per year.

There are six runways on the airport with one being used for general aviation aircraft. Authorities are planning on building a seventh runway to ease operations at the airport. The airport has made Amsterdam a hot tourist destination spot. With low flight tickets and ease of reach, travelers have an easy time booking flights.
