The Netherlands is a country in Western Europe. It is in the CET (Central European Time) time zone which is also referred to as MET (Midden Europese Tijd). This means that GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) or Coordinated Universal Time (CUT) is +2 hours.

Other countries in same time zone

The Netherlands rests at the same time zone as countries like Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Spain, Macedonia, Libya, Sweden, and Poland. Starting from 1909 to 1940, the Netherlands used to have the Amsterdam Time (Amsterdamse Tijd). Before 1909, different cities in the Netherlands had different times.
For example, Groningen had a different time in Amsterdam. Since the different times were not useful for public transport, one time was selected to be used in the entire country.

The Westertoren time in 1909 became the official standard time in the Netherlands. Between 1939 and 1945 when the Nazi-Germany occupied the Netherlands, the country also adopted the same time as Germany. After the war, most countries in Europe got the CET time zone.

Wintertime and summertime are present in the Netherlands. This means that during winter, one hour is subtracted while an extra hour is added in summer. Below are the current changing days:

End of summertime: 27th October 2019. Subtract an hour.
Start of summertime: 29th March 2020. Add one hour to the wintertime.
